CEMEX continued to promote increased safety awareness with its Safer Roads Together event in Casselberry, Fla., giving bicyclists perspective on potential blind spots around trucks, encouraging safe riding and driving on the roads, as well as showcasing the latest safety features incorporated in CEMEX’s truck fleet.

CEMEX opened a mixer truck at Wirz Park last month so all cyclists participating in Bike Casselberry could sit in the driver’s seat and learn what is visible on the road from that vantage point. According to statistics from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, more than 800 cyclists and more than 5,000 pedestrians died in crashes with motor vehicles in 2015, with most accidents occurring at intersections.

The hands-on experience gave nearly 300 cyclists the opportunity to check several mirrors on the truck to understand what a driver sees. CEMEX employees shared safety brochures, and they provided participants free bicycle headlights and reflective items.  Cyclists also were encouraged to wear reflective clothing and obey traffic laws while sharing the streets.

CEMEX began the Safer Roads Together program in the U.S. in December. The ongoing initiative is rotating among the cities and communities where CEMEX operates. Bike Casselberry was part of Bike/Walk Central Florida’s 2^nd Annual Bike 5 Cities Event.
