CEMEX's Davenport, Clinchfield and Louisville Plants Receive Top U.S. EPA & DOE Awards for Energy Efficiency - CEMEX's Davenport, Clinchfield and Louisville Plants Receive Top U.S. EPA & DOE Awards for Energy Efficiency - CEMEX USA
Houston, Texas - May 6, 2007
CEMEX USA announced today that three of its cement manufacturing plants were awarded the top U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognition for superior energy performance. The CEMEX plants in Louisville, Ky., Davenport, Calif., and Clinchfield, Ga. are the first cement manufacturing facilities in the U.S. to be awarded this year's 2007 ENERGY STAR by the EPA and DOE, a distinguished achievement that indicates a cement plant's high level of productivity in energy-efficiency and operational excellence.
"The employees at these CEMEX cement plants.should be commended for their ability to reduce energy use and protect the environment through energy efficiency," stated Jean Lupinacci ENERGY STAR's Commercial and Industrial Branch Director. "Strong energy performance in a corporation starts at the top, and your commitment and support can help CEMEX reach new levels of achievement," she wrote in her letter to CEMEX USA President Gilberto Perez.
"CEMEX's people are constantly striving to uncover new cement energy-saving opportunities," said Perez. "This award recognizes our strong focus on not only reducing energy consumption, but also finding ways to better care for our communities and the environment."
CEMEX continually evaluates its facilities and makes plant improvements to find more energy efficient ways to operate. Specifically, these three plants were chosen because they demonstrated superior energy performance through a number of measures, such as developing energy guidelines, employing techniques aimed at reducing heat loss in kilns, implementing energy saving ideas, performing audits, and providing employee training and awareness. They also employ efficient equipment to reduce operating times, enhance machinery reliability, and track energy savings. All these practices ultimately optimize the quality of the manufacturing operations, the process controls and the environmental surroundings.
The ENERGY STAR program is a joint government initiative by the EPA and DOE that focuses on strategic energy management and emphasizes the importance of demonstrating environmental leadership for future generations. CEMEX USA is a corporate partner of the ENERGY STAR program and a strong advocate for energy conservation and sustainable manufacturing practices.
