CAMERON, AZ — The Cameron Bridge, a reconstruction of U.S. 89 in Northern Arizona, gives drivers and pedestrians a new, safe way to navigate the Little Colorado River Gorge—and it was made possible in part by CEMEX concrete.
CEMEX was brought in as the concrete supplier for the project by Vastco, an Arizona-based leader in traffic interchange and bridge construction.
In order to meet the construction demands, CEMEX created a remote batch plant at its nearby Gray Mountain Quarry. In all, more than 22,000 cubic yards were poured to complete the bridge, which spans more than 650 feet and includes four lanes for highway traffic, a pedestrian underpass and other concrete flatwork.
“This project was particularly challenging because of the height of the bridge and the 80-foot column pours. We also had to deal with winter weather shut-downs and fluctuations in the level of the river. But our drivers were up to the task and executed this job safely and efficiently,” said Dave Schultz, VP/GM – Phoenix & Northern Arizona.
“CEMEX takes great pride in supplying quality building materials for infrastructure projects like the new Cameron Bridge,” said Eric Wittmann, CEMEX USA West Region President. “This project is one of many examples of how we’re building a better future in Arizona.”
