CEMEX Continues to Invest in Local Flood Recovery Efforts - CEMEX Continues to Invest in Local Flood Recovery Efforts - CEMEX USA
Lyons, Colorado - October 8, 2014
CEMEX USA, a building materials company that has operated in Lyons for more than 45 years, today announced several corporate donations to support the following local flood reconstruction initiatives.
CEMEX donated $7,500 to Lyons Community Foundation for their “Rebuild Lyons” program, which was established to provide financial support to and meet longer-term needs of organizations and government bodies affected by last year’s historic floods in Colorado.
$1,000 is being donated to the Lyons Fire Protection District, an all-volunteer fire department, for the organization’s upcoming Black Tie Dinner. Proceeds from the event will be used to help rebuild Lyons Fire Station 2, which was destroyed by the floods last year. The fundraiser is scheduled Saturday, November 8 at The Greenbriar Inn in Boulder.
Finally, the company donated $1,800 to support the Lyons Elementary School “jog-a-thon,” a fundraiser to help restore essential utilities impacted by the flood and help fund school supplies and enrichment programs. The jog-a-thon took place on September 26.
“Over the past year, the Lyons community has made remarkable progress toward recovering from last year’s devastating floods,” said Shane Wilson, plant manager for CEMEX’s plant and quarry in Lyons. “That said, there’s still much work to do, and as a proud member of the Lyons community, we remain committed to helping others in area rebuild.”
As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to serving as a good neighbor and community partner, CEMEX supports nonprofit organizations in areas where it operates.
In addition to supporting local flood relief efforts, CEMEX’s Lyons plant is a partner in the Wildlife Habitat Council’s (WHC) Corporate Lands for Learning program, which helps create, conserve and restore local habitats. In 2012, the facility was named a finalist for WHC’s “Prairies for Tomorrow Award,” which recognizes outstanding restoration work.
CEMEX has been operating in Lyons and an active member of the community since 1969.
