CEMEX Fairborn Plant Receives Volunteer of Year Award - CEMEX Fairborn Plant Receives Volunteer of Year Award - CEMEX USA

CEMEX Fairborn Plant Receives Volunteer of Year Award

Fairborn, Ohio - June 9, 2006

Because of CEMEX's continued commitment to education, the environment and the community, the City of Fairborn Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recognized CEMEX and its employees today at a public ceremony with the "Dr. Michael Horton Volunteer of the Year Award."

This is the first year the City of Fairborn has dedicated an award to an individual, group, or business for its outstanding efforts to make the community a better place. CEMEX was recognized in the business category for its volunteer efforts over the past seven years to restore Wright Park by planting more than 1,000 trees and improving the forest habitat.

"Because of CEMEX's willingness to volunteer and assist in community projects, Wright Park has been pulled from the throngs of dilapidation and restored into a vibrant neighborhood park featuring many different ecosystems and promoting positive wildlife habitat," said Pete Bales, Fairborn Parks and Recreation Superintendent. "The area has been restored so dramatically, the elementary school adjacent to the park was using it as a land laboratory for several years."

CEMEX is officially the "Land Lab Steward" for Wright Park. Next year, the park will again be used as a learning tool when the Fairborn elementary school reopens for kindergarten children.

"We are extremely honored to accept this recognition, especially an award named after local conservationist and community volunteer Dr. Michael Horton," said CEMEX Fairborn Plant Manager Bud McCormick. "Although CEMEX's employees have been volunteering in the area throughout the years, the last seven years we've spent restoring Wright Park have meant a lot to us. We're glad the community is benefiting from the project, too."

CEMEX also recently assisted the Fairborn Parks Division in transforming a 190-acre former quarry into the city's newest and largest park. CEMEX helped move boulders, create a two mile walking trail, and build a parking lot for the city.

In the local area over the last year alone, the CEMEX Fairborn plant and its employees have adopted a highway, donated land, planted trees, hosted quarry tours for elementary school classes, volunteered with the United Way to paint and build shelves at a Family Violence Prevention Center, adopted families in need during Christmas, donated gifts to terminally ill children, hosted a fundraiser for Adventures for Wish Kids, supported the "Kids Interested in Discovering Science Program" at the local elementary school, donated cement for the high school field house, and donated more than $37,000 to local charities and schools.

CEMEX is a growing global building solutions company that provides high quality products and reliable service to customers and communities in more than 50 countries throughout the world. Commemorating its 100th anniversary in 2006, CEMEX has a rich history of improving the well-being of those it serves through its efforts to pursue innovative industry solutions and efficiency advancements and to promote a sustainable future.
