EcoVision Presents First Award to Cement Company

Recently, CEMEX USA was recognized for its outstanding contributions to environmental protection and conservation awareness at the first ever EcoVision conference in Washington, D.C. on April 18, 2007. CEMEX was awarded the first EcoVisionary Award at a special dinner key-noted by Newt Gingrich, author of the upcoming book, "The Contract with the Earth," and Chairman Mark Udall of Colorado (D-CO), Chairman of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee of the House Committee on Science and Technology.

CEMEX became involved in EcoVision 2007 through its partnership and work with the International League of Conservation Photographers, Conservation International, the Wild Foundation and other members. Through this effort CEMEX continues to build upon its work to protect biodiversity, as exemplified by the El Carmen mega-corridor, a protected area that straddles the Mexico - U.S. border. Since the 1990s, CEMEX has worked to protect this rugged mountain range and its fragile biodiversity. In addition, in 1993, CEMEX began a book program with major conservation organizations including Conservation International, the World Wildlife Fund, the Wildlife Conservation Society and the World Conservation Union, to support a wide array of conservation projects through the publishing and donation of fine art coffee table books that highlight critically-important conservation issues. The CEMEX conservation book series aims to bring awareness to the world's most threatened and precious wild spaces.

CEMEX is also involved in the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's Cement Sustainability Initiative, a project that continues to look for contributions in climate protection, fuels and raw materials conservation, continual improvements in employee health and safety, emissions reduction, and other key areas.
