• $15,000 grant from CEMEX Foundation to LEAF expected to support food security and basic needs in Lyons, Colo. community

CEMEX USA announced today its philanthropic arm, The CEMEX Foundation, awarded a $15,000 grant to LEAF, the Lyons Emergency & Assistance Fund, to help support members of the Lyons, Colo., community with the physical, mental and economic strains due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation to LEAF is expected to help the non-profit organization continue to serve the Lyons community through the five human services programs it leads including the Lyons Community Food Pantry, Lyons Meals on Wheels, Basic Needs & Resource Matching, Mental Wellness & Addiction Recovery and Lyons Volunteers.

“CEMEX is deeply connected within the Lyons community since we have been involved in the community for decades, and we want to do what we can to help our neighbors,” said CEMEX Lyons Cement Plant Manager Uwe Lubjuhn. “The COVID-19 pandemic has created a difficult situation for people in Lyons and across Colorado, and we are proud to be able to support the community while so many are facing hardships.”

LEAF is a human services agency in the Greater Lyons area, and during the pandemic, the organization has seen a 700 percent increase in households needing basic assistance and support for food security and emergency funding for housing. The $15,000 grant from The CEMEX Foundation is expected to help fund LEAF’s food pantry for a month and support the organization’s basic needs grant program for three months.

CEMEX’s Lyons Cement Plant has a longstanding relationship with LEAF and was recognized by the organization as “Donor of the Year” in 2019. CEMEX Lyons has also been repeatedly recognized by organizations such as the Portland Cement Association and Wildlife Habitat Council for its community outreach and environmental performance. CEMEX USA was named US EPA ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for both 2019 and 2020.
