Innovative arena is expected to be the new home of NBA's Sacramento Kings. Sacramento is seeing a boost in the local economy thanks to construction of the $477 million, 19,000-seat Golden 1 Center, where the Sacramento Kings will soon call home. The arena will be an interactive, smart and frictionless building that utilizes enhanced Wi-Fi architecture and sensors to ensure connectivity. CEMEX’s proven record of high-quality building materials and around-the-clock service when supporting the construction of multi-purpose entertainment venues made the company part of the most important construction project in the capital city of California.

“CEMEX was able to deliver the strict quality control requirements. We developed a specialty high early strength mix design that no one else in the region could offer. We were also the only company of choice in meeting the intensive demand schedule,” said Tony Skulick, CEMEX USA Vice President & General Manager for Sacramento.

The Golden 1 Center, scheduled for completion in October 2016, has already brought over 2,000 construction jobs into downtown Sacramento, an area hungry for revitalization. A 16-story hotel is currently under construction, 16 applications for commercial high-rises are under review and 10,000 residential units are planned between now and 2022. Development in the area also brings new sales, utility and property taxes that help support critical municipal services.

“Our customers are the center of every project. Our expertise is helping the client to create a state-of-the-art facility by providing them with a reliable supply of high-quality materials and dedicated customer service. We are pleased to be part of a project that will not only benefit sports fans, but also the local economy and community as a whole,” Karl Watson, Jr., President of CEMEX USA said.

The arena is among the largest construction projects in California’s state capital in nearly a decade. Installation of the pre-cast concrete stadia—the foundation for seating similar to bleachers—is almost done at the upper bowl and concrete pours for interior features including steps, levels, decks and walls are complete.

“The project had a lot of challenges. Placing large pours that had to be done continuously and we couldn’t stop in the middle of the pour so having CEMEX there to provide concrete at the rate required and at the times required was crucial. CEMEX was always flexible in their start times and always delivered as scheduled when we needed it. Whether it be nights, weekends, day time, any time,” Rick Rice, Senior Project Manager, Urata and Sons Concrete said.

“Partnering with CEMEX has really helped us provide a brighter future for Sacramento and I’m very proud to be a part of it,” Jim Grimes, Owner, Concrete North said.

CEMEX has provided concrete for multiple sports arena projects across the globe, including the Arena de Amazonia soccer stadium in Brazil, PGE Arena Stadium in Poland, Aviva Stadium in Ireland, Coface Arena in Germany and many more.
