CEMEX USA Celebrates New Houston Headquarters - CEMEX USA Celebrates New Houston Headquarters - CEMEX USA
Houston, Texas - February 13, 2017
CEMEX USA is celebrating a new beginning with the official opening of its state-of-the-art United States headquarters located at 10100 Katy Freeway in Memorial City in west Houston, paying homage to its history in the cement and building materials industry through the office’s innovative design.
CEMEX USA held a ribbon-cutting in late January to mark the opening of the 82,000-square-foot office on the Katy Freeway. CEMEX USA President Ignacio Madridejos, flanked by company officials and employees, used a pair of golden scissors to cut the ribbon at the entrance to CEMEX offices. Madridejos and employees applauded the opening.
“These new offices show how CEMEX USA stands strong,” said Madridejos. “This beautiful building will be part of the community for years and illustrates our commitment to being part of it.”
CEMEX USA occupies two floors of the new building, which is owned and managed by MetroNational. The Houston headquarters moved across Interstate 10 from Memorial Hermann Tower at 929 Gessner. The new CEMEX office space is designed to tell the story of our products through the use and display of concrete, cement and aggregate throughout, giving it an industrial feel. CEMEX’s innovative Customer Experience Center has the look and feel of a high-tech trading floor with up-to-the-minute information displayed on video monitors mounted on a circular ring made of rebar.
“This office building was built utilizing CEMEX concrete for its structure,” said Ed Prins, CEMEX USA’s director of real estate. “Additionally, we worked with our architects, Inventure Design of Houston, to showcase the versatility of our products internally, and it illustrates how cement is the foundation of our lives every day.”
“10100 Katy Freeway’s prime location, proximity to Memorial City amenities, and large floor plates are ideal for CEMEX’s USA headquarters,” MetroNational President Jason Johnson said. “They have been a valued Memorial City office tenant since 2003. MetroNational is pleased to accommodate their growth and changing requirements with our new LEED office development, which is the second complex we have built for CEMEX.”
During the ribbon-cutting celebration, CEMEX employees took a group picture on the office’s spiral staircase that connects CEMEX offices on the second and third floors. Not only was the staircase designed to look like a poured in-place concrete product, the handrail is made utilizing rebar, the reinforcing steel that is inside poured concrete to give it additional strength. The floors of all of the hallways in the office are exposed polished concrete, and cement product artisan tiles are used on the walls throughout to create visual interest.
“This building has safety built-in, and safety is our number one priority and value,” said Guillermo Martinez-Sans, CEMEX USA’s Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Communications. “The layout and modifications of the new headquarters encourage collaboration and enable us to be One CEMEX.”
CEMEX is also committed to the health and safety of its employees, outfitting each office and cubicle with state-of-the-art desks that allow employees to work comfortably while sitting or standing. Employees have access to new conference rooms that encourage collaboration. A new open office setting ensures each workspace receives healthy doses of sunlight. CEMEX and designers really listened to employees to give them what they need from a work environment to remain healthy and engaged. More than 200 CEMEX employees are working in the new CEMEX offices.
