Custom concrete creates eye-catching condos in Miami - Custom concrete creates eye-catching condos in Miami - CEMEX USA
Miami is a city known for its eye-catching architecture, but it’s not all about the art deco or Mediterranean Revival. Some of the city’s newest architectural marvels are its ultra-modern, high-rise residential towers, and CEMEX is one of the suppliers helping to bring those projects to life.
The condos of The Grove at Grand Bay are among Miami’s most-coveted residences and have sparked a transformation of the eclectic Coconut Grove neighborhood. Rising 20 stories above Bayfront Avenue, these twin, twisting towers designed by internationally renowned architect Bjarke Ingels offer breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, an unmatched luxury lifestyle and stunning concrete aesthetics.
It doesn’t take an expert to see that The Grove at Grand Bay is a unique structure. But what you might not know is, it called for an equally unique concrete—a custom blend made specifically for this project by CEMEX.
“The striking design and the use of exposed concrete throughout called for a very high modulus elasticity requirement. CEMEX was able to meet that need by bringing in special aggregates from multiple locations outside of the Miami area to create the perfect concrete for this client,” Bob Cardonne, VP/GM Miami, said.
And it was much more than a foundation pour. With one-of-a-kind floor plans on every level and exposed concrete columns throughout all condo units, the entire structure required special concrete.
The project required more than 7,200 loads of custom concrete to be delivered over a two-year period, primarily serviced out of the South Miami Plant. None of it would have been possible without the collaborative efforts from hundreds of CEMEX USA employees out of the Miami Ready-Mix Group.
“We are able to give our clients options that differentiate us from our competitors. CEMEX not only can supply high-quality products in a timely manner, but also assists in executing these projects with the highest level of efficiency and safety. Because of that, we’re able to supply complicated, innovative and industry-leading projects like The Grove at Grand Bay, which will enhance the Miami skyline for years to come. That’s something to be proud of,” said, Gonzalo Galindo, CEMEX Regional President of Florida.
