Meet one of the faces behind the wheel: Jane Galeb.

Galeb has been a ready-mix driver for CEMEX at the Santa Clara, Calif., plant for 16 years and owes her success to hard work and “being just tomboy enough” to do the job.

“The thing I like the most about my job is being able to go out and see the world—not being in one place, cooped up inside,” she said.

Prior to joining the CEMEX team, Galeb did administrative work, including typing papers for scientists at NASA. But when her brother told her about an opportunity at CEMEX, and said the company would train her, she knew she was ready to trade typing for trucking … and she’s never looked back.

“This job is perfect for a girl who’s not worried about getting her fingernails dirty,” Galeb said. “You can make a nice living doing this. I’m proud I’ve been able to stick it out and do my job to the best of my ability. This is a good company, they have a good safety program and the people are great—it’s like a family here.”

Galeb also likes the fact that she and her fellow drivers serve as the face of the company to our ready-mix customers.

“Customer centricity is important for drivers. When we get to a job site, we’re the first ones the customers see. If there’s a problem, we’re the ones who have to take care of it on the scene. We need our customers to know that we have them covered,” she said.

“CEMEX is what it is today thanks in large part to drivers like Jane, who live our values, serve our customers and put safety first each and every day. Without them, we simply couldn’t do business,” said Eric Wittmann, CEMEX USA West Region President.
