Three CEMEX USA cement plants have been recognized with five awards from the Portland Cement Association for outstanding achievements in safety performance, safety innovation, and energy and environmental stewardship.
CEMEX’s Victorville, Brooksville South and Balcones Cement Plants were each presented with awards from the PCA on May 9, 2017, at the organization’s spring meeting in Washington D.C.
“CEMEX is committed to safe and sustainable business practices throughout our operations and to building a better future for our communities through environmental initiatives. We are very proud of our Victorville, Brooksville South and Balcones teams and their commitment to excellence, and it’s truly an honor to be recognized by the PCA for those efforts,” CEMEX USA President Ignacio Madridejos said.
The Victorville Cement Plant won two 2017 PCA Energy & Environment Awards. The first, in the Energy Efficiency category, recognized the plant’s commitment to reducing energy consumption through conservation and monitoring, process optimization and the use of wind energy. The second, in the Environmental Performance category, recognized the plant’s dedication to environmental excellence through clean-air efforts, carbon-footprint reduction and wildlife conservation.
Both the Brooksville South and Balcones plants were recognized with PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Awards, which were given to the nine highest-performing cement facilities in safety across the U.S.
Balcones was also honored with a 2017 PCA Safety Innovation Award for its pyroprocessing program, which resulted in upgraded personal-protective equipment for CEMEX employees performing hotwork.
“America’s cement manufacturers are committed to making the highest quality product with a minimal environmental footprint,” said PCA President and CEO James G. Toscas. “The companies recognized this year are examples of how this commitment underpins every day work at cement plants around the country. Their strong culture of innovation has led to energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing practices that are continually lowering the impact of the cement industry on our environment.”
