Houston, Texas - November 26, 2012
CEMEX is proud to announce that it’s Block USA and Ready Mix USA operations received recognition from ABC's Alabama chapter with the 2012 Excellence in Construction award and the 2012 Merit Award, respectively. The awards recognize the success of each of the suppliers’ efforts during two of this year’s major, local construction projects.
ABC honored Block USA in Birmingham, Ala., with the 2012 Excellence in Construction award in the Supplier category, a recognition that stands for the team’s successful production and delivery of Spec Brik during the expansion of Hoover High School, one of the largest schools in the area. Spec Brik is a cost-effective material that offers the aesthetic appeal of brick. Constructing new classroom space on campus required 55,000 Spec Brik units in a custom color and more than 112,000 grey concrete masonry units.
ABC also awarded the Ready Mix USA team in Birmingham with the 2012 Merit Award in the Supplier category for their performance during the construction of the 280,000 square-foot Huffman High School. The new school’s construction called for concrete in footings, sidewalks and slabs. Ready Mix USA built the school's four main staircases with hand-poured concrete that was custom stained along with the concrete slabs that decorate its hallways.
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association with 74 chapters representing merit shop construction and construction-related firms. For more information, visit www.abc.org.
