- Grant from CEMEX Foundation to Christ Health Center will support the testing of 1,000 patients
Ready Mix USA, a CEMEX USA company, announced today a grant award by its philanthropic arm, The CEMEX Foundation, to help support efforts by Birmingham, Ala.-based non-profit Christ Health Center, to fund efforts to test uninsured members of the surrounding community for COVID-19.
Ready Mix USA, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., secured a $10,000 grant that will help Christ Health Center provide 1,000 tests to patients in the Jefferson County, Ala., community who cannot afford to be tested for COVID-19.
“At Ready Mix USA, we are always looking for opportunities to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities in which we live and operate,” said Ready Mix USA President Marc Tyson. “Christ Health Center is reaching out to those in need to make testing easily available to avoid a further spread of the virus. Ready Mix USA and the CEMEX Foundation are proud to support Christ Health Center through this ongoing effort to build community together and provide critically-needed COVID-19 testing.”
Christ Health Center began COVID-19 testing for the Birmingham community back in March, developing innovative processes for community members to get quickly tested. The non-profit center is located within two miles of four Birmingham public housing projects where many residents are uninsured. Medical workers at Christ Health Center created a drive-through system where staff could quickly and effectively interact with patients outside the facility while safeguarding health and promoting social distancing. The center also developed a mobile COVID-19 testing lab that has been operating throughout the community. To date, Christ Health Center has provided more than 3,500 COVID-19 tests in Birmingham.
“It’s truly a group effort to fight COVID-19 with consistent testing and community support,” said Christ Health Center Chief Executive Officer Dr. Robert Record, M.D. “We thank Ready Mix USA, CEMEX USA and The CEMEX Foundation for their generous support of our mission at Christ Health Center, and the additional testing this grant provides also offers peace of mind for many of our neighbors and community as we all work together to prevent further spread of the virus.”
